SOSTAIN SICILY Foundation
SOStain Sicilia is a sustainability program for Sicilian viticulture, promoted by the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Doc Sicilia and Assovini Sicilia in order to certify the sustainability of the regional wine sector.
SOStain assumes that the impacts of agricultural activities go beyond the boundaries of the fields being cultivated, as they also affect the well-being of workers and the health of consumers, the involvement of local communities, the enhancement of the surrounding area, and the conservation of natural resources.
For this reason, the program includes a Specification consisting of 10 minimum requirements that include aspects ranging from measuring water footprint and carbon footprint to controlling bottle weight, from conserving floristic and faunal biodiversity to enhancing human and territorial capital, from energy conservation to consumer health.
